The Men’s Ministry Breakfast and Outing event:  “Food, Fellowship, and Firearms” is scheduled for this coming Saturday, October 7th, at 8:30am.  After breakfast at the church, we will travel to a private pistol range for target practice and fellowship.  Please, see Pastor Mark with any questions.

October Pastor’s Notes

The Scriptures are clear that before God saved us, we were dead in our trespasses & sins; and then at the moment we first surrendered to Him in repentance & faith, we were made alive together in Christ (Eph. 2:1-5; Col. 2:13).  The wonder of God’s grace should never cease to amaze us and we should always celebrate with the angels every time a new soul is added to His kingdom (Luke 15).

But have you ever wondered about the journey all of us took to that single day of salvation?  Yes maybe we remember the person who shared the Gospel with us that day, a friend, a co-worker, or a pastor.  But think for a moment, just how many people prayed for us, shared the Gospel with us in both word and deed, or simply loved us like Jesus when we needed it?  How many, of what seemed at the time to be unrelated events, encounters, and conversations, did our sovereign Lord lovingly use to guide us on our journey to Him?  Just thinking about it staggers the mind.

I have personally found it easier if I think of our journey as a long chain that has hundreds if not thousands of links in it.  Each link is one of the people who prayed us, invited us to church, taught us a Sunday School or Awana lesson, took us to lunch and listened to our problems, or simply greeted us with a smile and a small dose of Jesus’ love.

Beloved, every one of us is at least one link in the chain of someone else’s journey to Christ!  And this month we have so many low pressure opportunities that through the power of the Holy Spirit can be turned into another link in someone else’s journey.  Think how easy it is to invite someone to share a free breakfast and enjoy shooting at a private range.  Or how about proclaiming the Free Grace of God by simply handing out some waters or painting some children’s faces? There may be someone you know who hasn’t been in a church for years, but they would love to help out those suffering around our country today by giving blood.  And each year we’ve had over 120 kids come to our Trunk & Treat and this year we are also giving each family a Gospel DVD that is in both in English & Spanish.

This month, please don’t think of these events as volunteering or doing your duty, instead take hold of them as the divine opportunities that Jesus has sovereignly laid before you to be a link in the chain of salvation for someone you love or someone you don’t even know yet, but who will one day be your brother and sister for all eternity.

Beloved, our Wednesday night services are up and running again, and if last week was any sign of what is to come, God is going to deliver some incredible blessings this year!!!

The Fellowship Hall was full as we all enjoyed Carol’s delicious chicken tetrazzini while catching up after our summer break. Please remember that this week is our monthly Potluck, when we bring a dish to share with everyone (if you can’t bring one, d

on’t let that stop you from coming, there is always plenty to share).

Praises to God, for bringing a record 51 young people to start our AWANA ministry last Wednesday and may He increase it again tomorrow!!!!

We also restarted our 6:15pm study of “Right Thinking in a World Gone Wrong,” but it was only a review night, so if you were not able to make it, come tomorrow night, because you haven’t missed any new material.

The Isaiah’s Bells ministry kicked off rehearsals for another exciting year and our Voices of Grace choir is also back for our weekly 7:40pm practices!!!

So, I hope that you will be able to join us tomorrow night for another wonderful evening of Food, Fellowship, & Fun worshiping our Mighty Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!!!

September Pastor’s Notes

Everyone get  ready, because starting the first Wednesday in September (the 6th), we will be kicking off all of our exciting Wednesday Night Ministries!!!

Fellowship Meals:  This is a wonderful ministry that allows us time to both catch up with old friends and also to introduce yourself to new ones.  We will be using the same schedule as we have for years:  First Wednesday a Prepared Meal, then Potluck, then Prepared, then Prepared (sandwiches/subs), and if there is a 5th Wednesday in a month, we will have another Potluck.  As always, there is a suggested donation for members, but guests are always FREE!!

AWANA:  This is an excellent ministry that allows us to pour God’s love and Word into the next generation of His children.  And, every year since God brought this ministry to us here at Grace, we have seen Him add to our number and our joy.  We pray that this year, He will do the same again!!!

Bible Study:  This year we will be continuing our study of a thought -provoking and educational book called, “Right Thinking in a World Gone Wrong”.  This is an interactive study of how the Bible responds to some of the most difficult and hotly debated topics of our time, from Abortion to Homosexuality and Marriage to Politics.  Everyone is invited and all materials will be supplied.

Isaiah’s Bells:  Grace’s bell ministry will begin another year of rehearsals and preparations, so they can bring a touch of God’s beauty to our services!!!  If you have any questions regarding the bells ministry, please see Marceia Bartlett.

AWANA  MAMAS:  We encourage the moms who bring their children to AWANA to be spiritually fed as well, but  any women are welcome to join us as we discuss books that focus on living our lives for Christ, particularly as mothers.

Choir:  Although we have been getting ready for the last several weeks of August, the choir is preparing to kick into high gear now that we are in September.  We are preparing for another exciting year of worshiping the Lord that will include numerous Anthems and  special Christmas and Easter celebrations!!!

Beloved, it is going to be another incredible year of Wednesday Evening Ministries, so please mark your calendars and invite your friends and family up to Grace Mountain!

August Pastor’s Notes

As summer vacations begin to wind down and the school year begins to wind up, it is time for us to once again turn our prayers to whom God desires to be our next Deacons.  There are new members and guests since our last Election, so I thought it would be helpful to review our process and seek God’s guidance in this very important endeavor.

As we saw in our recent sermon series, we have a very biblical and God-honoring Leadership Structure here at Grace.  At its founding, we decided to combine the roles of Elder and Deacon into one office, that of Deacon.  Each Deacon serves a 4 year term on the Leadership Team with the Pastor.  This year, Lee Bryant finishes his term and rolls off of our Leadership Team.

Our Bylaws divide the Deacon Election process into 3 phases:

  • The Nomination Phase runs through the entire month of August and it allows members to prayerfully discern whom they believe God is calling into this important leadership position. A Deacon nominee must be at least 18 years old, have been a member of Grace for at least one (1) year, and meet the following standards:
    • A Deacon must live above reproach, meeting the biblical standards as laid out in

    1 Timothy 3:1-13 & Titus 1:5-9.

    • A Deacon must be committed to some level of ongoing service within the church.
    • A Deacon must be a regular attendee of weekly church services.
    • A Deacon must be regularly involved in an ongoing church sponsored study of the Bible.

    • The Qualification Phase begins in September. It allows each interested nominee to meet with the Pastor and Chairman of Deacons to discuss the Biblical Qualifications and the Practical Responsibilities of a Deacon at Grace Baptist, as well as the Basic Biblical Doctrines of our church.

    • The Voting Phase begins by distributing a secret ballot of all qualified nominees to every member of Grace Baptist Church. There will be a 3 week time period for all ballots to be returned to the church, at which time they will be tabulated and the results reported to the church.

I encourage everyone to read your Bibles and prayerfully discern whom God is calling to lead our wonderful family here at Grace.

    God bless!

Pastor Mark

Info About Upcoming Baby/Child Dedication

There wilI be a Baby/Child Dedication Service on May 14th (Mother’s Day.)  If anyone is interested in dedicating their child/children to the Lord, during our Worship Service, please see Pastor Mark, as soon as possible.

You might ask yourself… “What is a dedication service? Why do we do it?” provides a detailed answer from their website on the subject:

“Answer: In the majority of Protestant denominations that practice it, child dedication is a symbolic ceremony undertaken by Christian parents soon after the birth of a child. Some churches perform these ceremonies en masse and have several couples and children participating at the same time. The rite is intended to be a public statement by the parents that they will train their children in the Christian faith and seek to instill that faith in them. The congregation often responds through responsive reading or some other method to affirm that they, as a church family, will also seek to encourage the parents to bring up the child in the faith. There is no implied salvation in the ceremony, and it varies from church to church.

The idea of dedicating a child to the Lord can certainly be found in the Bible. Hannah was a barren wife who promised to dedicate her child to God if He would give her a son (1 Samuel 1:11). Luke 2:22 begins the account of Mary and Joseph taking Jesus to the temple after forty days in order to dedicate Him to the Lord. This was slightly more involved since it involved a sacrifice, but once again this ceremony did not indicate any level of salvation.

Child / baby dedication is not one of the two ordinances—baptism and the Lord’s Supper—required of Christians in the New Testament. As Christians, we are baptized and participate in the Lord’s Supper as outward and public signs of what Christ has done within us. While baby dedication is not an officially instituted ordinance of the church, there does not seem to be any conflict with Scripture as long as parents do not view it as assuring the salvation of the child.”

GBC Red Cross Blood Drive

Grace Baptist Church is hosting a Blood Drive for the American Red Cross on May 17th. The Red Cross will be set up in the Fellowship Hall from 3-7pm. Please pray about joining us and spread the word for the Blood Drive to serve and potentially save the life of someone who needs blood. A single blood donation is able to help up to three people. If you are interested in donating, volunteering, or if you just have questions, please contact Mark Elkins. You can also learn more by visiting

“The time of singing has come…”

“For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.” Song of Solomon 2:11-12

Here’s a reminder that this Sunday is the day of our Spring Missions Ingathering. This year, we are excited to combine the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering with the Vision Virginia Offering. Both of these offerings serve the purpose of raising money, prayer, and awareness for missionaries who diligently glorify God by reaching the people in their communities by serving, preaching, and teaching the good news and love of Jesus Christ. The Annie Armstrong Offering supports missionaries in the United States and Canada, whereas the Vision Virginia Offering focuses on supporting missionaries in our home state of Virginia. Please pray about these offerings as we come together to worship this Sunday at GBC, to pray for and support these missionaries.

We would also like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped in any way to make our Egg Hunt such a success! Praise God for such a wonderful Easter season this year!!!
