August 2013

Summer is beginning to wind down and that means it's time for our normal Wednesday evening activities to wind back up again… especially AWANA. Do you know what AWANA stands for? It is an acronym for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15.

Since the 1950's, they have been committed to helping “churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus Christ.” Each week, over 2 million kids participate in AWANA around the world; and in a recent survey of 6 year alumni, 92.7 percent still attended church at least weekly as adults! Also, I have found that the AWANA ministry is a very successful outreach to young parents who are looking for safe character building experiences for their kids.

I, therefore, believe there are two keys to the growth of our AWANA program this year: Team-Teaching and Community Awareness. Team-Teaching means that instead of having just one teacher or volunteer for each area, we have several who rotate every other or every couple of Wednesday evenings, allowing each one to remain fresh and also to allow them to be fed in adult Bible Studies. Community Awareness means that it is up to us, the members, to spread the word of our exciting AWANA program. Yes, we have a new sign and we will certainly run some advertising, but it will be the personal invitations that will lead to new kids and parents.

So, please prayerfully consider, if the Spirit is leading you to give 1 or 2 Wednesdays a month to God's ervice, as well as directing you to young families searching for a genuine church ready to share the love of Christ!!!!
